Young Writer of the Year Competition

Malvern Writers’ Circle has been organising this annual event since 1994. It was established by the late Don Grounds and his wife Wendy, to promote and encourage young writers.

 

Entries are now invited for the

2012 Malvern Young Writer of the Year Competition

from writers aged 13 to 19

The judging will be led by poet and academic Julie Boden, award winning writer Dan Purdue, and author of the play ‘Elgar and Alice’ Peter Sutton.

 Each entrant may submit ONE piece on any subject in ONE of the following categories (i.e. one entry only per student):

¨      Short Story or Creative Prose (up to 2,000 words): age 16-19 and age 13-15

¨      Poetry (up to 40 lines): age 16-19 and age 13-15

¨      A scene or extract from a play (up to 2000 words): age 13-19

There are cash prizes for all winners and runners-up

One winner in each age range will also receive an additional prize of £50 and the title Malvern Young Writer of the Year.

 

§  All entries must be clearly  printed on one side only of every A4 sheet of paper used.

§  Each sheet must be numbered and must show the title of the piece.

§  The name of the author must NOT appear on the text or the title page.

 

The judges’ decision will be final.

Entries will receive feedback and comments from the panel.

Winners will be invited to read their entries at a public award ceremony and all winning entries will be published in a Young Writers' Anthology.

The authors will retain copyright.
